In August 2023, I shared information about Medical Billing and Claims Resolution (MBCR), which helps Illinois residents eliminate medical debt. I invite the community to join us in RIP Medical Debt Jubilee, which will be celebrated over the weekend of August 26-27. The goal was to raise $12,000 to forgive $1.2 million in debt.
This Jubilee of Debt began with a conversation between an individual and a pastor about this organization that the individual had read. Pastors researched the program and shared this information with church leaders and other local faith communities. Eight congregations have joined the campaign to eliminate medical debt for Illinois residents.
Generosity from the following Houses of Faith, Centennial Christian Church, Christ the King Episcopal Church, Bloomington First Baptist Church, First Christian Church, Mennonite Normal Church, Moses Montefiore Temple, New Covenant Community Church, and Our Savior Lutheran Church Thank you for your generous donation. Combined with individual donations. Marketing materials were created and donated by CPG Printing. BLOOMINGTON/Normal reputation for caring about others continues.
Enough money was raised to forgive a total of $3,571,154.27 in medical debt for 4,450 people in 72 of Illinois’ 104 counties. Of those, 730 live in central Illinois counties of Champaign, DeWitt, Livingston, Logan, McLean, Piatt, Tazewell, and Woodford. This is almost three times the Debt Jubilee target.
Bloomington/Normal, thank you for always being so bright and giving.
