Fans were able to strike a chord last week when Edge took to Twitter to deliver a highly emotional promo about retiring from WWE after a challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship. Fans naturally felt that this meant he was in the running for a new world title and could be the frontrunner to win. Recently, however, reports emerged as to why he lost the challenge.
He didn’t win the match. Instead, he lost to AJ Styles in qualifying and then defeated Bobby Lashley to face Seth Rollins at the next Night of Champions event.
There’s a reason Edge didn’t win the match on SmackDown, according to reports. phi full selectreports that AJ Styles’ finals decision was made before Edge even took to Twitter to promote it. Decisions already made means they are unlikely to change as they affect future plans.
It should be noted that the promotion of the Hall of Famer’s possible retirement does not imply that he will win instead. But we can only assume that’s something WWE has considered.
Now, it remains to be seen whether the R-rated superstar will play any additional role in the World Heavyweight Championship.
