The following is a release from the office of Col. Lamar A. Davis. Office of Col. Lamar A. Davis: After much prayer, consideration, and discussion with his family and friends, I have made the decision to retire from the Louisiana Department of Public Safety/Louisiana State Police, effective January 8, 2024. did. My journey with this ministry took place over 27 years ago, and I can truly say it has been a deep honor. Over the years, I have been fortunate to experience opportunities that I could have never imagined for my family and myself. I strongly believe that God has guided my path and shaped me into the person and dedicated servant I am today. But it was the people who honed me and invested in me that contributed greatly to my selection as a colonel. During these three years of his life, we experienced all four seasons. Our agency began experiencing one of the most turbulent times in recent history. The result has been extreme criticism, distrust from those we are sworn to serve and protect, morale issues, and multiple investigations into our agency. Under such circumstances, most agencies would have retreated, given up, or gone back to their old ways. We looked in the mirror and immediately began making changes that will future-proof our agency. While many of the changes we’ve made have been significant, the best part of getting through this difficult time is that we’ve been able to accomplish this together. There’s nothing more satisfying than working as a team to solve a problem, especially when that problem affects us all. I will be forever grateful for that. My career has been marked by many adventures and accomplishments, but I have also endured tragedies that will forever remain in our hearts. It was in the face of these losses that we grew closer to each other, discovered the deeper meaning of life, and forged an inseparable bond. We are his DPS and family. No one, no one, can change that. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my wife Krista and son Xavier for their unwavering love, support, and sacrifices they have made throughout my career. I’m sure there were moments when work invaded family time. I hope you understand the need for those sacrifices and know that I never lost my center. You are the reason I wake up and you are the center of my being. I love you deeply and with all my heart. Dear former and current members of the public safety family. I would like to express my sincere gratitude. Your tireless dedication, unwavering commitment, boundless passion, and continued support of our agencies, communities, state, and me have left an indelible mark on the people of this state and on me. I consider myself incredibly lucky and blessed to have worked with such dedicated and dedicated people throughout my 27-year journey. Thanks to all of you, these past few years have been some of the most rewarding and special times of my life. I would be remiss if I did not express my gratitude to Governor and Mrs. Donna Edwards, and to your entire team. Selfless dedication to the people, community and nation. Governor Edwards, you are an outstanding leader who embodies dedication, commitment, compassion, and selflessness. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to lead and serve our public safety family and the nation. Your support and guidance has allowed me to grow into this role and set a great example for all of us to follow. Your leadership is not only contagious, but also incredibly rewarding. It was truly an honor to serve with you all. You changed my life forever. Finally, I would like to thank the people of Louisiana for supporting my team and me over the past three years. The field of public safety is becoming increasingly complex and demanding. Most men and women in our profession know this and volunteer anyway. We ask that you continue to support our first responders and public safety heroes, and continue to work with them to keep everyone safe. As has been said many times, crime is not just a law enforcement issue. It’s a problem for all of us. We all need to work together to reduce and mitigate criminal activity. This starts with all of us working together and prioritizing the well-being of our employees in everything we do. Together we have the potential to accomplish great feats. This stage of my career may be nearing its end, but I want to assure you that it is far from the final chapter of my life’s journey. I’m a servant! I am also committed to discovering new avenues to serve our communities and our nation, albeit in a different capacity. I am deeply grateful for all the great things we have accomplished and continue to do to protect our communities and our nation. Thank you for your dedicated service and I pray that God continues to bless and protect you and your family.Sincerely, Lamar A.
