Ever wanted to live in a house with amazing views of San Diego from every room? Now you can! San Diego County’s only revolving home just hit the market for the first time, and the price is dizzying.
The house in La Mesa near Mount Helix is on the market for $5.3 million. It has four bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, and 43 solar panels. The ground floor features a fixed living space with a workbench area, a recreation room/granny flat with a full bath and full kitchen, and 25,000 square feet of private land planted with 11 fruit trees.
The 5,100-square-foot second floor can be rotated in either direction any number of times at various speeds.
The rotating platform offers nearly 200-degree views from the Pacific Ocean to downtown San Diego, the Coronado Bridge to Mount Cowells, Mount Palomar, and the Cuyamaca Mountains.
When homeowner and architect Al Johnston was interviewed for NBC 7’s corner, Ken Kramer’s San Diego, Johnston wanted to build a round house when the couple purchased the land in 2004. said he decided.
“I told Janet [my wife]could spin it, and she said yes, and then I had to find a way to do it,” Al said.
Underneath the house is a mechanism that rotates the entire house twice an hour. Al told NBC 7 that the only maintenance the house requires is he lubricates the bearings every five years. No lounging, no storage tanks. Everything is connected to standard public facilities like any other house, except that it rotates with the house.
What about parking?
The house comes with a 2 car garage with a turntable to turn the car 180 degrees.
The home is equipped with smart home technology, top-of-the-line appliances, fire protection, earthquake resistance, and security systems.
