A Louisiana woman has been charged with shooting a man over a $2 debt, and the injured victim escaped by jumping from a second-floor window in her apartment.
Kennedy Elise Greene, 21, of Bullesley, Louisiana, said in connection with the April 18 incident at the University Courtyard Apartments (2315 S. First St.) across from the main campus of Temple College. was charged with a second-degree felony.
Green was indicted on Wednesday by a Bell County grand jury for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The victim told police the shooting happened after Mr. Green got into an altercation over a $2 debt he owed her. Later that day, at about 3:42 p.m., she turned up at his apartment with a weapon.
The arrest affidavit filed by the Temple Police Department states that “the suspect entered the apartment with a firearm purported to be an AR-15 and slammed the door towards her.” “The suspect fired through the door and the bullet hit (the victim’s) leg.”
The wounded man found the nearest exit.
“Witnesses told officers that[the man]jumped out of a second-story window and ran into his office, shortly after Kennedy Greene walked from his apartment to his car with what appeared to be a rifle in hand. He said he saw him go,” the affidavit said. “Witnesses were familiar with the suspect because they had previously played on the same sports team.”
Witnesses said the victim was taken to a local hospital before police arrived.
Witnesses and victims described the shooter and his vehicle, which led to a citywide police search. Police had urged residents to avoid the area during the investigation.
“She is armed and considered dangerous,” police said at the time. “If you see her, stay away and call 9-1-1.”
Green was later found by police and arrested.
“The suspect admitted to arguing with the victim over the $2 but denied shooting,” the affidavit said. “A search warrant was executed against the suspect’s vehicle, and police found an AR pistol.”
Greene was released from Bell County Jail on April 24 after posting $150,000 bail.
School officials previously said she was a student at Temple University from fall 2020 to spring 2022. According to her roster, Green played for the TC women’s basketball team during her school days.
According to 426th District Court records, Greene is scheduled to appear before Judge Steve Dusky for an arraignment hearing on Sept. 15 at 9 a.m., with a pretrial hearing scheduled for Nov. 3 at 9 a.m. .
