Eligible low-income pensioners are being urged to claim it or risk missing out on additional living expenses.
The government says anyone who makes a new claim within the next 10 days will receive £301 worth of living expenses.
Hundreds of thousands of eligible pensioners haven’t claimed it.
This means that you will not receive an increase in your National Pension or any other benefits or discounts.
Pensions Minister Laura Trott said: The country is put down.
“Check to see if you or your significant other can claim this special support.”
Pension credit description
About 1.4 million people apply for pension entitlement. This is a benefit paid to low-income people over the public pension age. The latest figures are not available, but it is believed that as many as 850,000 pensioner households have not claimed it.
It is designed to help with the cost of living by guaranteeing a minimum income. This guarantees a minimum weekly income of £201 for single pensioners, £307 for couples, or more if they have disabilities or care responsibilities.
Importantly, it can also lead to automatic payments for additional assistance such as housing allowances, city tax discounts, NHS dental care assistance, eyeglasses and transport, and free TV licenses for those over 75.
If the application was made before May 19th, it can be traced back up to three months if the applicant was eligible to receive the application during that period. That way he will be sure to receive £301 for the latest cost of living.
Two further cost-of-living payments of around £300 will be made to low-income earners who receive certain benefits in the following year.
