An Atlanta family says thousands of dollars disappeared from their Wells Fargo account, but the major bank says no refunds have been issued.
The Pischke family lost about $14,000 after receiving a warning from Wells Fargo about suspicious activity in their account. report ABC-affiliated news station WSB-TV.
The account’s transaction history shows three transfers to the Mercedes-Benz Financial Services account, indicating someone bought a flashy car. However, the family claims they do not own the Mercedes and are not allowed to make withdrawals.
But Wells Fargo takes a different view on the issue.
As stated in Wells Fargo’s letter to the Pischke family:
“We have determined that the transaction was authorized by you or someone you authorized. We have closed your claim.”
To get their money back, the Pischkes filed a police report, sent documents to Wells Fargo and contacted Mercedes. The Pischkes said that even after going through the proper channels, the lender still refuses to repay the lost funds.
“They said, ‘It makes no difference.’ It’s still your wife who actually made the deal.”
Well, we’ve been married for 42 years. I’ll see if my wife does something like that. And there’s no Mercedes anywhere, not even in her garage. β
WSB-TV partnered with Wells Fargo to hear the lender’s side of the story. Wells Fargo said in a statement that it supports the decision not to make the Pischke family whole.
