SmartAsset ranked counties based on a variety of factors, including tax burden, which examined how state and local tax rates, including income and sales taxes, affect retiree finances. The study also analyzed the number of health care facilities, retirement communities, and recreation centers in each county. Finally, the study considered the current percentage of elderly people in each county’s population.
“These are indicators that can impact the quality of life of retirees, and we also have accessible data points that allow us to make identical comparisons across county and state lines,” Sabato said. said.
Using all this data, SmartAsset was able to identify that Kentucky has 10 counties across bluegrass that are ideal for retirees.
“We found that Kentucky’s top counties weren’t concentrated in a single region,” Sabbat said. “Kentucky’s top retiree county was Boyle County, near the center of the state, while the other top five counties ranged from McCracken and Callaway counties in the southwest to Greenup counties in the northeast. “
