Social Security supports the Americans with Disabilities Act
According to the Social Security Administration: five ways Social Security supports ADA.
First, it will provide financial and medical benefits to ensure a “higher quality of life” for those unable to work.
Second, it provides “cash aid” to disabled and visually impaired people with limited income.
Third, financially support children with developmental and behavioral disorders.
Fourth, the Ticket to Work program supports career development and helps people with disabilities work towards financial independence.
Finally, ABLE accounts allow eligible individuals to save up to $100,000 without losing any benefits.
SSI benefits for children with autism
Eligible parents of children with autism may be able to receive some financial assistance.

This includes emotional or learning problems such as:
- Results showed severe functional limitations
- expected to die
- Has persisted or is expected to persist for more than 12 months
What is the “sympathy allowance”?
Compassion Benefits quickly identifies illnesses and other medical conditions that meet Social Security disability benefits standards.
These conditions primarily include certain cancers, brain disorders in adults, and a variety of rare diseases that affect children.
The CAL initiative reduces waiting times for disability determinations for people with severe disabilities.
The Compassion Benefits program identifies claims where the applicant’s illness or condition clearly meets Social Security’s statutory disability criteria.
Benefits for same-sex couples

Same-sex married individuals are entitled to the same benefits as heterosexual individuals, including retirement, disability and survivor benefits.
Children and stepchildren of spouses are entitled to benefits as well.
