ALABAMA (WHNT) — The deadline for 2023 Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) benefits has been extended.
The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) said recipients must use existing program benefits at participating facilities by Nov. 27.
SFMNP is a federally funded program administered by the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industry, Farmers Market Authority Section. ADPH announced it will provide eligible seniors with a “$50 annual stipend to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from certified farmers at Alabama farmers markets and farmers markets.”
Applications to become a beneficiary of this program are currently closed, but are expected to reopen in January 2024.
ADPH recommends that you apply if you are age 60 or older and your household income does not exceed the eligibility requirements below.
- $2,248 per month for a household of one person
- $3,041 per month for a household of two people
