State authorities took the position that women were not eligible for family pensions because they were introduced after the death of their husbands. However, Justice Satapathy granted the relief considering that although Mr. Venudar passed away in 1977, he would normally have retired in 1983. He directed the collector to release the pension amount within two months “from the date of receipt of this order”.
