Prolific movie actor Michael Caine, 90, has finally announced his plans to retire.
The ‘Inception’ star shared this news in a recent interview BBC Radio 4 Today Just weeks after hinting that his new movie The Great Escaper would be his last.
“I keep saying I’m retiring. Well, I am now,” Kane said.
“There was a picture in which I played the lead role, and it got incredible reviews. The only thing I can get now is Old Man,” the Oscar winner continued.
Kane continued. “And I thought, maybe I should just leave with all this. What do I have to do to overcome this?”
Caine has had an eclectic career that began in the 1950s and was built over the better part of a century, making his film debut in 1956’s “A Hill in Korea.” His wide audience appeal allowed him to work in a variety of films over the decades, and he went on to star in films such as The Prestige, Batman Begins, and Kingsman: The Secret Service. went on to land solid roles in modern day hits.
He was nominated for six Oscars, winning Best Supporting Actor in 1986 for Woody Allen’s Hannah and the Sisters and Best Supporting Actor in 1999 for The Cider House Rules.
Kane teased last month that he’s the “Great Escaper.” Historical dramaduring a chat with , which will be his last appearance on the silver screen. Telegraph paper.
The 90-year-old’s latest work was released on October 6th.
He plays Bernard Jordan, a World War II veteran who escapes from a nursing home to attend the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings in France.
“I thought he was a great guy. It was so beautifully written,” he revealed about the film’s script.
“Due to the coronavirus, I hadn’t painted in three years, so I thought I was done. And then suddenly I did it and had such a great time.”
Even though Kane said he would eventually retire in 2021, he still remained active and released the movie Bestsellers.
Speaking about his role alongside Aubrey Plaza in the comedy, Kane said: BBC Podcast “Kermode and Mayo Movie Review” 2021: “The funny thing is, it turns out this is really my last role, because I haven’t worked in two years and I have a problem with my spine and it’s in my legs. I can’t walk very well because it’s affecting me.”
In 2022, Kane was recovering from spinal surgery – his health issues sparked speculation that he was planning to quit Photographed forever.
