Martin Lewis has issued a 24-hour warning to pensioners who may miss a £301 payment from the government.
Savings experts said up to 1 million eligible pensioners who have not claimed their pension credit benefits from the Ministry of Labor and Pensions will have to do so by Friday’s deadline.
Mr Lewis said single pensioners earning less than £220 a week or married couples earning less than £320 a week could be eligible for pension deductions.
He warned pensioners on the lowest incomes to check their eligibility and claim so as not to miss a payment.
“If you are eligible for a pension and you are missing it, you need to check now, today, tomorrow or Friday at the latest, because if you are eligible you will get £301 more,” Lewis said. told ITV. good morning england viewers.
Lewis warned that up to 1 million eligible pensioners could miss payments, explaining that there are “many reasons” people aren’t checking to see if they can claim their payments. “People don’t know about it,” he said.
But Lewis said the government is urging citizens to claim pension credit benefits.
Lewis also said some pensioners didn’t claim their payments because they thought they would get less. But the savings expert explained that the perk is “a gateway to even more rights.”
“Even if the pension credit itself is trivial, all the other things it opens doors for are enormous,” Lewis said, adding that demanding payment would be more than £900 from the government. It could mean entitlement to high living expenses, he explained. These include city council tax incentives, housing allowances, dental and optical expense subsidies, and more.
Lewis said those over 75 who are eligible to pay could also be entitled to a free TV license. He added: “Let’s enlist the nation’s one million pensioners on the lowest incomes who have been missing out on the opportunity to receive the rights they paid for the scheme for years.”
The warning comes amid more than 7 million households across Britain expected to receive £301 in cost of living payments by the end of Wednesday, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) said.
The payments are part of a broader government assistance package announced to address the cost of living for 2023-2024, with eligible households receiving a further £300 in autumn 2023 and a further £300 in spring 2024. £299 will be paid.
Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride said the payments underscored “the government’s commitment to ensure that the lowest-income earners are protected from the worst of rising prices and that they are reassured.”
“We know the impact that rising prices are having on families, and that is why we are providing millions of people with significant support through these direct cash payments,” said Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt. Stated.
