LANCASTER – Many people move to Florida, Arizona, or other warmer locations after retirement. But Kim Devitt, Director of Early Childhood Programs at Lancaster Fairfield County Community Action Agency, might go a little further.
“We are considering moving to Ireland and rebuilding the family unit there to serve the same community, children and families,” she said. It’s a change, but I’m really excited about this new adventure.”
Devitt’s husband, Shay, is from Ireland.
She retired from the agency for the first time in 30 years and her last day was set for Friday.
“I am excited to see a new journey in life after retirement,” David said. , is one of the most meaningful parts of my life, being able to look back with fond memories and that work has helped serve children and families.”
Her responsibilities included helping pregnant women and children up to age 5 and their families through various services such as Head Start and Early Head Start.
“We could consider working with family and community partners to provide quality services to children and families,” says Devitt. “To provide resources, parental education and support services to enable children and families to thrive and be healthy.”
Mr Devitt said he came to the institution as a teacher 30 years ago. Because she has always been passionate about working with young children and their families, especially those in need who may need more support and services.
“I was familiar with community work and knew that I could create, design and execute a program based on the real needs of the community,” she said.
Devitt said he will miss the people and relationships he’s built over his career.
“I am still passionate about serving children,” she said.
LFCAA Executive Director Clinton Davis said the agency was sad to see David leave.
“We really appreciate all the work she puts in,” he said. We are so grateful for everything and look forward to retiring for her, but sad for ourselves.”
Fairfield County Commissioner Dave Levasie said, “Fairfield County is losing one of the nicest people I’ve ever known.”
“She’s a hard worker and loves people. “She just wanted to make Fairfield County a better place to live.”
