Dechra Pharmaceuticals is up 38% after takeover talks.
Shares of British animal health maker Dekra surged 38% at the start of trading after news of a possible takeover.
The company announced Thursday that it has entered into talks with Swedish private equity group EQT over a potential £4.63 billion ($5.8 billion) all-cash deal.

If the transaction goes through, shareholders will receive £40.70 in cash for each ordinary share.
Dechra said EQT has until 11 May to announce its firm intention to make an offer.

US dollar index falls to near one-year low
The US dollar index fell to a nearly one-year low, trading at 100.8. This indicates that the Federal Reserve may pause the tightening cycle, as there are further signs of cooling inflation.
The Dollar Index fell below 100 in April 2022 and traded at 100.6 on April 21, 2022, according to Refinitiv data.
The producer price index fell 0.5% month-on-month in March, while the core index, which excludes food and energy prices, fell 0.1%.

Wells Fargo fell 1% in long-term trading as investors prepare for a series of earnings reports from major banks.

US producer price index falls unexpectedly in March
The Producer Price Index, a measure of wholesale prices, fell 0.5% month-on-month in March. This is another sign that US inflation may be falling. Economists polled by the Dow Jones expected the PPI to remain unchanged from his February.
Core PPI, which excludes food and energy prices, fell 0.1%, while economists had expected a rise of 0.2%.
