CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — Clearwater Police Chief Daniel Slaughter is stepping down from his position at the Clearwater Police Department, the city announced Monday.
The announcement was first made by Mayor Jennifer Poria on Friday. Slaughter’s retirement will take place in late May, giving her time to make a smooth transition to her next role as Assistant to the City of Clearwater and her Manager.
“Based on his operational leadership experience, his unwavering commitment to Clearwater and the community, and his demonstrated strength of integrity and accountability, I have determined he is the right person for the job. .
Slaughter has been Chief of Police since August 2014 and has been with the Police Department since October 1992.
“My trust in every member of this agency has made this difficult decision easier because I know each and every one of you will keep the momentum going and keep the sector moving forward.” , Slaughter wrote in an email to employees announcing his retirement.
Slaughter takes the position of Assistant City Manager, which has been vacant since April 6th. He will be responsible for Gas, Utilities, Utilities, Marine & Aviation, Solid Waste/General Services.
Decisions on interim chiefs and the outline of the process for permanently filling the positions will be made shortly.
