Bad news for those who have spent years and years of their lives investing in the bright red hat of Make America Great Again. Former President Donald Trump makes regular phone calls “The biggest political movement in our country’s history“
MAGA seems to be getting smaller and more helpless with each passing day. It’s noisy but ineffective, and can cause chaos but not success.
The recent debt ceiling deal between President Joe Biden and Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is a perfect example of MAGA yelling and doing nothing.
MAGA debt ceiling redline easily crossed by Kevin McCarthy
This is an unmissable moment for far-right Republicans in Congress to use the threat of economic catastrophe that accompanies a debt default to undermine everything that arch-villain Biden has accomplished as president and cut spending to the bone. It was an opportunity to reduce And make a hole in the safety net.
“I say to Republicans, Congressmen, and Senators, if you don’t make big cuts, you’re going to have to default.” President Trump spoke at the CNN Town Hall.
Republican Commission of Inquiry Chairman Kevin Hahn, Republican Congressman from Oklahoma told Axios He agreed with Trump. And South Carolina Rep. Ralph Norman said, “They either agree to modest cuts or take responsibility for whatever happens.”
The threat of a Republican debt ceiling hike has become a reality
McCarthy bowed to MAGA’s demands and introduced a debt ceiling bill that initially watered down much of what Biden had accomplished in his first two years. This was a wholly absurd proposal, intended to appease the extremes of McCarthy’s own party.
But the final deal the chairman struck with Biden fell far short of what MAGA lawmakers had hoped for.
Trump Releases DeSantis Deepfake:Republicans should endorse adults as presidential candidates.
Game Start.DeSantis’ official statement on Twitter could start a war with Trump.
The original bill slashed non-defense spending and set a spending cap for 10 years. The final agreement will impose minor spending limits over the next two years. They demanded harsh (and unnecessary) working conditions for food stamps and Medicaid recipients. According to the bipartisan Congressional Budget Office, Medicaid will remain untouched and changes in work requirements for supplemental nutrition program recipients will actually increase government spending on food stamps.
The original bill would cut the $80 billion allocated to the IRS for 10 years as part of Mr. Biden’s anti-inflation bill. The final deal cut only $10 billion a year over two years.
Debt ceiling deal is “ridiculous” and “a mass of fake news”
Notable people who are passionate about MAGA disgusted with the agreement.
Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado before the vote the bill said “Tons of fake news and fake issues that do nothing to curb out-of-control federal spending.” Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs called it a “ridiculous, ephemeral deal” and “one of the most disgusting acts” he has ever seen.
Texas Congressman Chip Roy, a member of the Freedom Caucus affiliated with MAGA, said: Said: “Right now, the Republican Congress is in chaos. …not one Republican congressman should vote for this deal — not one.”
in the house, 149 Republican lawmakers voted in favor of the deal68% of Republicans in the House.
Hmmm.
what happened? Republicans who are not fully aligned with Trump and his MAGA movement did their job, got some of what they wanted, and voted in favor of a bill that would save the global economy from collapse. .
MAGA protests over debt ceiling deal were as raucous as ever
Trump supporter Steve Bannon said on his podcast Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries emerged as “The Man” from the debt ceiling deal. Bannon called Jeffries a true majority leader and used rather derogatory terms for McCarthy.
But again, MAGA is the center of attention. McCarthy will not be able to be removed as Speaker of the House. Just like they couldn’t stop Mr. Biden from nearly winning the battle to raise the debt ceiling. Just as it failed to help the Republicans achieve a “red wave” in the midterm elections, it failed to help Trump win the 2020 presidential election.
Even Texas Republicans Ignored Trump’s Threats
Speaking of the former president, when the Texas Republican Party decided to impeach the state’s Attorney General, hard-core Trump supporter Ken Paxton, he said: Trump defended Paxton, threatened Republicans in states “Hopefully Republicans in the Texas House of Representatives will agree that this is a very unfair process that should not be allowed or allowed to proceed. If that happens, I will fight you.”
Shortly after the threat, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives voted 121 to 23 to impeach Paxton. Apparently they weren’t and shouldn’t have been intimidated.
Stop Treating Trump and MAGA as Almighty Forces
MAGA as a movement has amply proven itself to be a papier-mâché tiger. It’s certainly noisy. Anything that can cause all sorts of dust, threats, and unbridled reproaches. But still a paper tiger.
The Republican Party and the rest of the people are loyal to Trump and his perverse and loyal fan base through red hats, loud chants, and, one day, tragically, a cult fascination with a man who doesn’t care about people. It’s time to stop being afraid. what about them?
MAGA’s power is a mirage. That’s why McCarthy avoided the bet and struck a deal with Biden. He knew he could beat Trump’s buddies.
And that’s exactly what he did.
