In a surprise announcement Saturday, the Waterloo School Board confirmed that Superintendent Terry Babis will retire after a seven-year term, effective Dec. 3.
The school district recognized Mr. Babis’ dedication and leadership and wished him a fulfilling retirement. Her decision came after her 36 years in public education. This was also influenced by her recently deceased father and her desire to focus on her family and new goals.
The board appointed Mike Middy as interim superintendent. An experienced educational leader, he has served as superintendent in the Bloomfield and Romulus school districts and is a longtime Seneca Falls resident.
To assist in the search for a new superintendent, the board will work with Mike Ford, an experienced facilitator who has assisted multiple districts in their search for superintendents, including Seneca Falls, Marcus Whitman and Marion.
Reflecting on his tenure, Mr. Bavis expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the Waterloo community and pride in his accomplishments during his time as superintendent.
