KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 — Tan Sri Akyl Sani Abdullah Sani is stepping down as Police Inspector General (IGP) today after being presented with a “post-retirement plan” by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. announced that he had agreed.
He said he thanked the prime minister for the unexpected offer.

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude and respect to the Prime Minister for his concern for me. You proposed a plan.
“I really didn’t expect that,” he said at a handover ceremony at the Malaysian Police Training Center (Prapor).
He was candid about his retirement from the police force, adding that nothing was discussed before his decision to retire four months ahead of schedule.
“The situation required me to attend to his needs, so I’m happy to leave the team with direction,” he said.
However, he did not elaborate on what the proposed plan would look like.
At the handover ceremony, Arylic Sani handed over the baton to Tan Sri Lazardine Hussain, who will take over the role of the new IGP from tomorrow.
Lazaruddin then appointed Datuk Ayob Khan Midin Pitchchai, the head of Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department, as the new deputy IGP.
The event was attended by Interior Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Interior and senior police officers.

Acryl Sani, who was appointed as the 13th IGP in May 2021 at the age of 59, has succeeded Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador, whose contract has expired.
Upon reaching retirement age of 60, the government extended Aryl Sani’s tenure as IGP for another two years under a contract that was due to expire in October.
