Dear Amy: I retired at 62 and consider it a blessing to be able to do so.
Prior to this momentous event, I warned my family and friends of my decision, resulting in a concentration of unsolicited warnings that my body would weaken and my brain would malfunction. has been sent to you.
I am retired and living in a new community, but seemingly well-meaning people constantly question me about what I do all day, as if enjoying my leisure time is a crime.
In fact, I’ve researched my family tree, read, invested, reclaimed long-neglected relationships remotely, and have been working for 40 years and enjoying life to the brim.
Actually, I don’t have to explain myself to anyone, but apparently some kind of justification is expected.
Any insight on how to deal with these offensive comments?
– life is beautiful
Life is good dear: People are asking you how you spend your time, not to accuse you of enjoying your leisure time (how often do you do that!), It could be out of pure curiosity.
The kindest response is to assume they are genuine. You can say, “After retirement, I’m exploring all the things that have fascinated me but haven’t had the time.” To be honest, I enjoy every day. ”
If you find that people are actually looking for ways to smear you, you can also add: “…and I play a lot of mini-golf and have ice cream for dinner. Basically I’m Ferris Buehler and every day is a day off.”
Dear Amy: You answered a question from a “judgmental teen” who always judges others based on how they dress.
As a former police officer, I have to say that you were right when you said that the first decision you should make about someone should be your own safety.

Dear Retirees: I pointed out that you have good reason to listen to your instincts. I hope this teen learns to regulate himself.
